Abstract:
This paper deals with the question of whether romantic love can be justified. Its aim is to show that an affirmative answer to this question is consistent with the reasonable assumption that the justification of an attitude towards an object is based on some properties of the object. First we will examine the intuition that the beloved is irreplaceable, which has been widely debated in the literature on romantic love, and explain why it does not undermine that assumption.
